Situated in the North West of Poland, the Kołobrzeg Pier is now a concrete structure that was renovated in 2014. But its wooden structure beginning dates back to 1881, when it was only 100 meters long.
It has had a few upgrades since. It was destroyed during World War 2, then officially reopened in June 1971. To now its latest upgrade in 2014. There are plans to add to the structure at a later date, which I can't wait to see the transformation.
What makes the Kołobrzeg Pier so special? Personally, it is the memory of exploring a part of a country I once called home. The memory of strolling the beach with my loved ones. The silliness, the laughter as the waves crashed against the stone wall. The droplets of the salty Sea as water pour down from its height. Memories of the seagulls thieving at my fries and Zapiekanka. Memories of a Love now gone.
I was in Love and care free, and this Pier symbolizes one of many pockets where I escaped the harshness of reality. Free from utility bills, mortgage, the Nine to Five, and office drama. Just the melody of the waves and the singing of the Seagulls. Just me and the beautiful woman that was once the Love of my life.
Regardless of the end, I refuse to let these memories fade.
But the real question is: What will Make the Kołobrzeg Pier Special to you?
If you are an artist like myself or a photographer, the Pier will inspire you like you would ever imagine. The scenery is breathtaking. If you're a young couple on your honeymoon in Kołobrzeg, or an old couple, the Kołobrzeg Pier is one of the most romantic places that you may find yourself.
If you have young ones, your children can chase the seagulls till they're exhausted. Or they'll be jumping with joy as The sea water splashes down on them. The walls and frames are sturdy and secure, so they will not hurt themselves. Even the moody teenagers will crack a smile when their parents are not looking.
Regardless of your age range, the Kołobrzeg Pier can be special to you.
